2024 Events and Accomplishments

Presentation to DDS Staff working with Self-Advocate Coodinators - August 16, 2024

Co-Advisors of People First of CT,  Linda Rammler and Leslie MacNab, walked down Memory Lane covering the history of the self-advocacy movement in the United States and in Connecticut.  The purpose was to set the framework for ongoing collaboration between the all-volunteer group, People First of CT, and the Self-Advocate Coordinators paid by the CT Department of Developmental Services.  Click below for a copy of the presentation.

Attendance at the Reinventing Quality Conference - September 15 thru 17, 2024
 

 Vice President, Josh Mears, and President-elect, Jossie Torres, attended this conference in Baltimore, Maryland.  They presented what they learned at the October 24, 2024, Statewide meeting of People First of CT.   Click on the button below to see their PowerPoint presentation.

Attendance at the National ArcUS Conference - November 1 thru 3, 2024
 

This conference was in Columbus, Ohio. The CT Council on Developmental Disabilities funded attendance of People First members, Aaron Newton and Varian Salters.  Midstate Arc generously funded attendance by Kelly Dorsey, past Secretary of People First of CT, and Michelle Bell, a Midstate Arc Self-Advocate and member of Proud Parents of CT.   Click on the button below to see their PowerPoint presentation.

Attendance at the National Conference of TASH: Advancing Inclusion through Advocacy, Research, and Practice - December 5 thru 7, 2024
 

This conference was in New Orleans, Louisiana.  Its theme was Celebrate Together: Let the Good Times Roll.  It was attended by Melissa Taylor, People First of CT Board Member, and Josh Mears, Vice President,  Stay tuned for their presentation which will be at the Statewide meeting on January 23, 2025.
